E88 Error Codes

(ARP) Discarding message (reason = Invalid field):(dd) hh hh ... hh
The listed ARP message contains a field with an invalid value. Either:
- The hardware_type field (offset 0) contains a value other than 000116 (DIX) or 000616 (IEEE 802).
- The protocol_type field (offset 2) does not contain the IP identifier (080016).
- The hardware_address_length field (offset 4) does not contain the value 0616.
- The protocol_address_length field (offset 5) does not contain the value 0816.
- The operation field (offset 6) contains a value other than 000116 (Request) or 000216 (Response).

(ARP) Discarding message (reason = Message too short):(dd) hh hh ... hh
The length of the listed ARP message does not conform to the ARP standard.

(BootP) Invalid Magic Cookie!
The responding BootP server's reply did not conform to RFC 1048.
+ Add the vm=rfc1048 switch to the E88's entry in the BootP server's table (bootptab).

(BootP) Timeout
The E88 failed to receive a BootP Reply. Either:
- The E88 is not connected to a network.
- There is no BootP server with an appropriate BootP entry connected to the network.
- If the BootP (or DHCP) server is located on a network segment other than the connected segment (LAN), the default gateway (router) has not been configured to act as a BootP agent (or DHCP relay).
- The E88 is configured to direct its BootP requests to a non-existent BootP server instead of broadcasting it on the network.
- A DHCP server is being used to service BootP requests but a reservation has not been created for the E88.
Either:
+ Connect the E88 to the network.
+ Set up a BootP server and/or create an entry for the E88 in the BootP table.
+ Configure the router to act as a BootP agent (or DHCP relay).
+ Ensure the BootP server's IP address (in the E88's BootP menu) is set to 255.255.255.255.
+ Create a DHCP reservation for the E88.

(net) Discarding - Frame too short (hhhh) hh hh ... hh
The listed net frame received from the network was shorter than the minimum length of 14 bytes (as per the net standard).

(net) Discarding - Misdirected non-broadcast: hh hh hh hh hh hh
E88 malfunction: An net frame addressed to the listed net address (but not intended for the E88), passed the E88's net address filter.

(net) Discarding - TOO_LONG (hhhh)
A received net frame exceeded the maximum length of 1518 bytes (as per the net standard).

(net) Discarding - TOO_LONG hhhh
The payload of a net frame generated by the E88 exceeded the maximum net payload length.

(ICMP) Corrupted datagram: (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 received the listed ICMP Time Exceeded message from the network.
+ Ignore this if it happens infrequently.

(ICMP) Destination Unreachable: (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 received the listed ICMP Destination Unreachable message from the network.
+ Check the validity of the IP address and/or UDP port of the remote application.

(ICMP) Parameter Problem: (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 received the listed ICMP Parameter Problem message from the network.

(ICMP) Redirect datagram too short: (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 received an ICMP Redirect message from the network that was shorter than the required length.
+ Check the IP address of the configured gateway is correct.

(ICMP) Source Quench: (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 received the listed ICMP Source Quench message from the network. This would have been generated by a gateway in order to throttle the E88's network transmissions.
+ Only investigate if the condition is reported frequently.

(ICMP) Time Exceeded: (ddddd) hh hh ... hh The E88 received the listed ICMP Time Exceeded message from the network.

(ICMP) Unknown message type: (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 received the listed ICMP message of an unknown type from the network.

(IP) Discarding datagram (reason = Corrupted header): (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 received an IP datagram from the network with a corrupted header.
+ Ignore this if it happens infrequently.

(IP) Discarding datagram (reason = Illegal destination address.): (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 attempted to dispatch an IP datagram to an invalid destination IP address.

(IP) Discarding datagram (reason = Incorrect destination address): (ddddd) hh hh ... hh The E88 received an Ethernet frame containing an IP datagram not destined for the unit. Generated when the MAC address of the Ethernet frame matches that of the unit, but the IP address does not match that of the E88. Typically caused by a failure to flush the ARP cache on another IP host.

(IP) Discarding datagram (reason = Incorrect source address): (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 attempted to generate an IP datagram that contains an invalid source IP address. This message may be generated if data is presented to the E88's serial port before the unit has obtained a valid IP address.

(IP) Discarding datagram (reason = Invalid header version): (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 received the listed IP datagram from the network with a version identifier other than 4.

(IP) Discarding datagram (reason = No fragmentation reassembly area available): (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 was unable to allocate a fragment reassembly area.

(IP) Discarding datagram (reason = Too short.): (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 attempted to generate an IP datagram that was shorter than the minimum allowed length of 20 bytes.

(IP) Discarding datagram (reason = Too short): (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 received the listed IP datagram from the network that was shorter than the minimum required length.

(IP) Discarding UDP datagram (reason = Interface data unit size violation): (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 attempted to pack more than the maximum UDP payload into an IP datagram.

(IP) Discarding UDP datagram (reason = Invalid source IP address): (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 attempted to send an IP datagram using an invalid source IP address.

(IP) Discarding UDP datagram (reason = TTL too short): (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 attempted to send an IP datagram using a zero time-to-live value.

(IPMNGR) Discarding datagram (TOO BIG). (ddddd) hh hh ... hh
The E88 received an IP datagram that exceeded the maximum size supported by the E88 device.

(Kernel) Invalid expiry time.
Serious E88 malfunction.

(Kernel) Is not a mailbox.
Serious E88 malfunction.

(Kernel) Message to big - mailbox = sss, message size=ddddd, max size=ddddd
E88 malfunction.

(Kernel) Not a mailbox
Serious E88 malfunction.

(Kernel) Out of memory
The E88 has run out of buffer space. Typically caused when the E88 is connected to an Ethernet LAN carrying large numbers of net broadcast frames (Novell networks are notorious for this).
+ Connect the E88 to a quieter LAN segment, disable Novell's NETBIOS stack on any workstations attached to the network, or completely disable IPX on the network.

(Kernel) Overflow in sss
E88 malfunction.

(SMC) Allocation request failed. Result=hh
E88 malfunction.

(SMC) Packet_length_in_bytes > (5 + 1) * 256 (hhhh): hh hh ... hh
E88 malfunction.

(UDP) Discarding datagram (TOO BIG) :
The E88 attempted to generate a UDP datagram that exceeded the maximum size supported by the software.
