Multenet Technologies announces successful completion of a contract for the supply of networking devices to a major retail chain.
Cape Town, South Africa, 30 January 2004.
In a fiercely competitive market, one of the largest South African based retail groups chose the EtherPad Baseline RS232 and the MultiPorter
Baseline RS232 for their nationwide debit card roll-out project.
Appealing to a wide range of customers, the group operates and franchises stores based in South Africa, Africa and the Middle East. As a
premium class retail chain store offering a selected range of products and services, it strives to maintain the highest standards to ensure
the company remains at the top of the retail industry.
The EtherPAD RS232 Baselines and MultiPorters connect serial Pin Pads (Pin Code Keypads) and tills, i.e. Point Of Sales (POS) to E-POS (Electronic
Point-Of-Sales) servers via an Ethernet backbone (WAN). The servers authenticate and process the debit card transactions from any one of the
nationwide retail stores' 2000 plus tills.
The EtherPAD Explorer's 'Set Configuration' utility developed by Multenet has proved to be a big time saver for the project managers. Configuration
files can be prepared beforehand by the integrator architects for engineers in the field, to speed up the configuration and integration of the
devices upon implementation.
The implementation enabled the chain to offer its customers a debit card service one full peak season ahead of a permanent installation which
followed subsequently. The project in addition to a technical success was no doubt a commercial success and a significant contributor to the
financial results.
This rollout of Multenet products reinforces the company's establishment as supplier of choice in the electronic payment and debit card acceptance
technology supply chain.
Multenet's challenge is to find the best ways to build strong, lasting relationships with our retail customers, to understand them and meet their
needs so that we can move ahead together.
