Case Study - Modicon PLC's
"PLC Modbus TCP Bridge Application"
Process Control

This demonstration is a very good example of how the Etherpad can be used as a Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP bridge.

A Modicon Quantum PLC was connected to an Etherpad through its RS232 Application port. The Etherpad was connected to the Ethernet Local Area Network at the exhibition booth, and allocated a suitable IP address. Concepts V2.2 was loaded on one of the exhibition notebooks, and set up to communicate to the PLC on TCP/IP using the IP address of an Etherpad. The demonstration entailed downloading a program from the notebook to the PLC, from the PLC to the notebook, and on-line programming.

Although an Ethernet communication module is available for the Quantum PLC, this demonstration shows a cost effective way of achieving remote programming of older existing PLC's using an Ethernet network.
